The first 20 modules in this seductively happy series... As you've noticed there's no coding in this pack, only 20 little modules. That depends on our coders being "a little" occupied with school business and so on... and I just wanted to spread these modules before they get too old. Of course, most of them are in fact spread already, not to mention rather old, so why am I doing this? Hmm... promotion reasons?... Public relations?... Eh... maybe... There's at least 3 (three!) previously unreleased modules, namely 18, 19 and 20, so there's not only old modules here... =) Also think of it as a service to you, because now as you've received this archive by modem or by your friendly postman (Pat?), you are the proud owner of the up-to-date complete Skogens Djur series... no need to hunt around the world for the missing ones any more! =) Just enjoy them in your favourite player (Hippo) and feel the beepy happiness flowing through your mind... And wait for the next 20 ones! Oh... I almost forgot... If you are a mislead PC user who downloaded this archive by mistake, just delete it (C:\>DELETE 3LE-SKDJ.LHA followed by RETURN or ENTER) and forget it. Your soundcard will probably fail to play them due to the short loops. Anyway, you wouldn't like your $3000 machine to sound like a C64, would you? Play some nice 16-bit 64-channel XM's instead. Or continue playing Duke 3D. I don't care... OK children! Now we'll have a fun-fun walk-thru of the modules! ### Name Size Pos Pat Spd Tmp ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 001 "Escaping Elk" 10474 7 7 3 100 The module that started it all (at least it started this chipseries). Ironically, it's not very happy as it describes a poor elk's escape from an evil hunter in the deep swedish forests... stop elk hunting now! Used in the chip-pack Brain Damage #4 by Giants, and also in a jointro from them. 002 "Stoneforest" 6518 3 4 6 125 Not so happy either. The name... hmm, I don't know. Short and crispy. 003 "Party Animals" 16796 14 13 4 125 The furry little animals are having a nice party (drinking apple-juice) and everything is nice... But the big bad bear lurks in the shrubbery nearby, angry because he wasn't invited. So he jumps forth and starts destroying the party! But after only 2 patterns, the misunderstanding is cleared out. It was the forests' post office that kept the letter due to the faked stamp. The bear apologizes and then the party continues even happier. 004 "Home With The Hog" 13968 6 6 9/5 125 A real summer-module. Undividedly happy. I don't know why the hedgehog is at home when he should be at the beach! But I guess he had lots of swapping mail to take care of. 005 "Rolling Around" 10460 7 7 4 125 I suddenly had this idea, to make covers of all classic happy computer tunes. It started out fine with this one, from the nice old game Rock'n'roll. Anyone who remembers it might recognize the music from the first level. 006 "The Toad's Waltz" 9410 6 6 8 125 A... a tune. Happy, but in a calm-in-the-rockingchair kind of way. 007 "Stor Depression" 10528 4 4 A/6 125 Not happy at all! This shouldn't have become a Skogens Djur! In spite of its tragic nature, it was used in Feedback #2 by Apathy and also in Erotic Design's chip-pack Psychol #8. By the way, "stor" means "big" in swedish, and is thereby not a misspelled "star", which is one of the 15 most common misunderstandings in our scene... 008 "Super-brugsen!" 13658 9 9 4 125 Typical Skogens Djur-style, but not exactly happy. Dedicated to a certain danish chain of convenience stores, hence the name. Used in Feedback #2 by Apathy. 009 "The Lost Animals" 9722 6 6 6 125 Starts off happy and promising as the little animals are going for a walk in the forest, but come astray into the dark, deep parts! Will they ever find their way out? Used in Feedback #2 by Apathy. 010 "Zelda Rules!" 14908 11 11 4 125 The second cover. It was made because of the cover-all-happy-tunes idea, but also because I had recently heard several chipcovers of the Zelda tune, but noone was particularly good so I wanted to make one myself. Dedicated to Cytron/Manic Party Strippers (Depth, really). 011 "Bright Clearing" 10920 11 8 4 125 Another typical Skogens Djur. By mistake it was made to sound just like a eurodance hit, the name of which has been forgotten, at least in the beginning. And I thought I borrowed it from the tune they play in the commercial for 80's music ("What happens when you play this...") It was, however, used in the menu of Horrorpack #22 by Gods. 012 "Tvaettbj0rn?" 6476 3 3 4 125 A short and strongly committed (and not so happy) little tune, which I made when I spent christmas '96 at my parents house and felt the abstinence from Protracker. Luckily my little brother had a version of it on his A500. 013 "Swimming Rabbit" 9102 7 6 4 125 My first module in 1997. I had just come home from The Party, empty of inspiration, and the result was this "packtune" in a standard-happy (but a bit thoughtful) mood. 014 "Vetebr0d" 15676 14 12 4 125 Now they're getting longer... This module has a distinct intro-feeling to it, and that is because it was made for an intro which was never released. It breaks new ground in the Skogens Djur realm, because it doesn't loop... Well it does, but it didn't from the beginning. 015 "Flimbo's Theme #1" 17320 12 12 4 125 Another covered tune, it was of coursed picked from the old but nice game "Flimbo's Quest" (one of very few who got a straight "10" in Datormagazin). I listened closely to the SID module and started to remember the nice feeling of the game... then I made this module. I think it's the single Skogens Djur that I worked the most with (which doesn't say too much, really...) 016 "Animal Stayed Home" 10510 10 7 3 125 Soon I discovered that this chip thing was true. And also that I had run stuck in the old F04 composing. I took an inspirational break for a couple of months (as they who swap with me know...) and then I invented this new, fantastic style. Tempo 3 instead of 4! That's original... 017 "Climbing Trees" 19636 14 14 4 125 ...but the old style was too cunning a trap to let me slip away. The so far biggest and (almost) happiest of Skogens Djur. 018 "Flimbo's Theme #2" 19496 15 14 3 125 The second (and probably last) cover from "Flimbo's Quest". Not as happy as the other one, but still... specially requested by Android/3LE. Now he can dance the night away to this module... 019 "One-Legged Rabbit" 13474 9 9 4 125 So named because it "limps" in the end... (aj, den gick nog inte att översätta) It was impossible to loop, I just lost myself further and further into the swamp of improvised chip-solos. So it wraps around in a kind of weird manner. 020 "Kalas I Skogen" 17008 12 12 4 125 Big celebration... this module is so disturbingly happy that it's almost a parody of Skogens Djur. Undoubtedly my happiest module so far. Note: not only 37-47 arpeggios in this one... ------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's it and that's that... I'm sure all of you found this information very necessary and interesting. Now over to the FAQ of Skogens Djur! SKOGENS DJUR - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. Can I use these modules in my own production? YES! All there is to it is that you credit me for it. Please, also send me the production if possible. I don't mind you using the already used modules either, but maybe the publishers of those productions will. I don't know. Better play it safe and use a "free" module... I of course retain the copyright of the module itself. I say it now, so it's done... ALL MODULES ARE (C) COPYRIGHT 1996-1997 BY DANIEL JOHANSSON AKA COMA OF THREE LITTLE ELKS. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. This is almost never of any relevance on the Amiga scene, as we know the rules naturally, but in a country not so far away, there are people for whom this copyright thing is very important. This kingdom is tragic and dark. The people is enslaved and do not know of a better world. Their king Bill, who is their king because he has the biggest copyright of all, has seen to that... But that's another story... If you want me to make a module specially for you, then write to me and we'll see what we can do... Mostly I like to make chip-tunes! (Really?...) But also big projects are interesting... Swapping is also (very) possible, so for any reason, use this address: Daniel Johansson Stenstaliden 1 B 681 36 Kristinehamn Sweden No internet so far... maybe some day! The last part of this text is approaching... I'd like to thank these people for their work in the past, present and future of computer music! No special order of course...
